The Sociology of Professions seeks to discover the origin of professions and the cultural influences leading to the emergence and disappearance of professional groups in Nigeria and worldwide. The course also interrogates the political and economic contexts of professions and the different forms that the professions take in different societies. This is done using appropriate theoretical perspectives in understanding the process of professionalisation.

The course involves lectures, interactive physical class and online discussion. Assignments and tests are given as well as a final examination.

The Course Outline provides a preliminary reading list which students are expected to explore even as they discover additional readings. The readings will provide students with adequate background preparation for the course.
